The Homing Pigeons : Book Review

Courtesy
The homing pigeons, a debut novel by Sid Bahri and is published by Srishti publishers and distributors. I received this book from MySmartPrice (http://www.mysmartprice.com/books/) and in return I promised them to give an honest and an unbiased review.

The book is about the ups and downs faced by Aditya and Radhika. They are friends since their schooling days and were attracted to each other but too scared to express it and later departed without confessing their love. Radhika and Aditya have their own set of stories to tell the readers about their life events, the ups and downs, their upbringing, their love story, their marriage tales with other person whom they seldom loved or even felt for.

The book is set up in the middle of the appalling 2008 recession. Aditya is a jobless, penniless man and is left with no choice but to live on his wife, Jasleen’s money. He refuges himself in drinking to bear with his joblessness only to meets an attractive stranger in a bar one day. From here his life takes a very steep turn asking him to plunge on something that his conscience rejects and detest in taking the course. But he has to choose between his morals and his stomach. His choice will change his life forever.

Radhika is married to a rich man who is much older than her but her destiny was such that it leaves her widowed. She has responsibility to marry off her stepdaughter, Meera, so that she can legally be an heir of her husband, Vimal’s one part of the property. She feels that by doing so she could finally earn her freedom and start living a peaceful life. However she is hounded by her loneliness. How will she be able to find peace ,despite having so much wealth in her possession? Will she be ever going to come out of her loneliness cocoon? Will she ever be re-united with her first love?

The book is interesting because of the plot. It has each chapter from both the protagonist’s point of view. It describes their past events so beautifully. Each chapter tells you why Aditya and Radhika are in the current situation. What are the choices they made in their life and what it has leaded to? The only lacking would be the pace. I would have loved it if it could have a good pace so I was able to finish the book in one sitting but nevertheless, it is very important to mention that this book must not be missed and this book is an adult book just because it has only few adultery scenes. The cover page is very symbollic for it says that the homing pigeons has to return back to their mate and in this book the homing pigeons are represented by Aditya and Radhika. Will they be really coming back to each other? Go buy the book and know it for yourself.
